Ulf Sormark settled in Hawaii with his wife Julie in December 2014 after 40 years in the Swedish diplomatic service. His numerous postings in Asia included Japan, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Taiwan and China. Ulf became a leading Asia specialist in Sweden with trade and commercial promotion profile. He was Commissioner General for Sweden's participation in Korea's World Expo in Daejon 1993. Ulf served in Taipei as Sweden's Representative 1995 - 2001, and became Consul General in South China (Guangzhou) 2002 - 2007. Retirement in Hawaii, where East meets West, was their plan since many years.

In retirement Ulf is involved in development of treatment for spinal cord injuries. The spinal cord project will start clinical trials on humans 2015 at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm. He is Ambassador for Sweden in the World Citizen Organization (WCO), organizing Silk Road Mayors' Forums in different cities along the Silk Road; in Urumqi, China 2014 and in Bursa, Turkey 2015. Ulf is Director of STCC (Sweden Tourism and Culture Center) in Tokyo, Sweden's tourism promotion organization in Japan. He is also engaged in the Swedish Trade Promotion company AB (STPC) with trading activities.
