Consul General Andrea Gleason
June 2021. Ms Gleason is a senior career officer with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with over 28 years’ experience in foreign and trade policy and international negotiations. She was most recently Deputy Head of the Economic Candidacies Taskforce, which supported the successful campaign for the appointment of Australia’s Mathias Cormann as Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Ms Gleason has served previously as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s State Director in Western Australia, home of Australia’s largest naval base. Overseas, she has served in Washington DC and Stockholm. In Canberra, Ms Gleason has held a range of positions within the Department, including several focussed on Australia’s Pacific partnerships.
Ms Gleason was a Research Fellow at the Perth USAsia Centre, an international policy think tank, in 2014-2015. She has been an Advisory Board Member of the University of Western Australia’s Oceans Institute and an Advisory Board Member of Murdoch University’s Asia Research Centre. She is a Selection Committee Member for the Forrest Research Foundation’s postgraduate research scholarships program.
Ms Gleason has a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Trade from the Australian National University.
Ms Gleason has travelled extensively in the United States and lived in New York City and Honolulu, as well as Washington DC. She is married with two daughters.
