Mr Dewar is a senior career officer with the Department of
Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). His appointment as Consul-General,
Honolulu was announced in August 2011. Between February 2008 and
September 2010 he was an adviser on international, defence and
national security issues in the Prime Minister's Office. Between
November 2010 and April 2011 he was a visiting fellow at the Australian
National University's Australian Centre on China in the World.
Mr Dewar has previously served in the Australian Embassies in Beijing
and Seoul. At DFAT in Canberra he has been Director of the
Speechwriting Section and has worked in the Conventional and Nuclear
Disarmament Section, the Korea Section and the Regional Security
Section. He joined DFAT in 1994. Mr Dewar holds a Master of Arts in
Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University and a Bachelor of
Arts with honours from the University of Melbourne. He speaks Japanese,
Korean and Mandarin.
