Ambassador Charles B. Salmon, Jr., joined the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in late August 1996, after he retired from the Department of State. He provides advice on U.S. foreign policy, specifically as it relates to Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean area nations. Ambassador Salmon is also a member of the Center's academic department.

Ambassador Salmon has served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. His prior assignment was in Vientiane, Laos, where he was the American Ambassador.

Ambassador Salmon received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Fordham University and a Master of Arts in History from Columbia University. He is a graduate of the National War College.
