Brenda Lei Foster was appointed as an Executive-in-Residence at the University of Hawaii, Shilder College of Business in August 2013 where she advises and assists the College in its international programs, especially those related to China. From September 2005 to July 2013, she served as President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai), which is the largest and fastest growing American Chamber in the Asia Pacific region and one of the largest AmChams outside the United States. As President, she was responsible for overseeing all of the Chamber's initiatives, as well as representing the Chamber and American business interests in China, the U.S., and the Asia Pacific region.
Ms. Foster has also served as President and CEO of ULU Group, Ltd., a firm specializing in emerging technologies in the Asia-Pacific region (2003-2005), Executive Assistant to the Governor of Hawaii for International and National Affairs (1995-2002), Director of the State of Hawaii's Office of International Relations (1992-1994), and Executive Director of Hawaii's World Affairs Council, the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council (1977-1992).
A nationally and internationally respected expert in Asian Affairs, Ms. Foster is a member of several national organizations including the Council on Foreign Relations, the Pacific Council on International Policy, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, the Asia Society, and the U.S. Committee on the Council for Security Cooperation in Asia and the Pacific. She is a past President of the National Council of World Affairs Organizations and is a former member of the Staff Advisory Councils for the National Governors' Association and the Western Governors' Association of which she also served as chair. She serves on a number of boards and advisory councils and is a recipient of several awards.
Ms. Foster holds a B.A. and M.A. in Chinese studies from the University of Washington and an M.B.A. from the University of Hawaii's Executive MBA Program. She is married with one child.
