HOnorary Consul Midori Akamine
Midori Akamine is an Attorney of Environmental Law from Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Ms. Akamine holds degrees in political science from the University of California, San Diego, and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in several US jurisdictions and has been active with the Hawai‘i State Bar Association.
She has professional experience with national and international organizations in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, Hawaii, California, and Washington DC. While based in Hawai‘i, she held a position at the US Department of Commerce, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. Her work included standing up NOAA’s Marine National Monument program and served as the first Chair of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument; then the largest marine protected area in the world and now the largest in the US. She also has experience across the Pacific region in a variety of environment, energy and resources issues in American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Pacific Remote Island Areas, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Kiribati and other island states. While in Washington D.C., she worked at the World Bank leading a team auditing compliance, traveling globally to conduct in-country investigations.
As the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s Honorary Consul to Hawai‘i, Ms. Akamine represents the United Kingdom at cultural events as well as working with multiple agencies and industry to increase prosperity relationships between Hawai‘i and the United Kingdom.
